Winter in Ellmau

Ellmau lies in the heart of the SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser – Brixental, one of Austria’s largest interconnected ski areas. At Haus “Auf der Sonnseit” your winter holiday becomes a real experience.

Skiing and cross-country skiing

The Hartkaiserbahn, your gateway to the SkiWelt with its many slopes, lifts and rustic ski huts, is just a few minutes away by car. Or leave the car in the parking space at the house and take the ski bus, a 5-minute walk away. Cross-country skiers can be on the Kaiser trail within minutes; it runs just below the house along the Kaiser mountains.

Sledging and winter walks

You can sledge to and from the house. A special experience is the natural toboggan run from Ellmau’s local mountain, also floodlit in the evening. We are happy to lend you sledges free of charge. The cleared winter walking paths around Ellmau start right outside the door.

Cosy by the stove

After a day of winter sports, make yourself comfortable by the stove: the Gams apartment has a wood stove, the Kaiserblick apartment a tiled stove and an open fireplace. Firewood is included in the price. Meanwhile your ski clothing dries in the drying room for the next day, and the sauna at the Kaiserbad is just a few minutes’ walk away.

For cosy evenings we can provide raclette and fondue sets on request. When the sun grows stronger in late winter, enjoy it from a lounger in the snow or on the warm wooden loggia.

Après-ski

In Ellmau and the surrounding area you can round off your ski day in the afternoon in true Tyrolean style, with live music at the huts or in the village.
